Liberal Capitulation
In this era of unfettered fascism, racism, misogyny, and economic turmoil, one might expect Democrats to be both combative and popular. These individuals are sorely undereducated in politics.
Called It, For What
After the predictable loss of Kamala Harris, I pointed out a simple fact: liberals were about to capitulate to the fascist Republican Party—and unfortunately, I was right.
The wave of liberal capitulation—surrendering or ceasing to resist an opponent—started five months ago, when the Democratic Party voted to keep Trump’s government running. In March 2025, Democrats had an opportunity to extract concessions from the new Republican government by threatening a shutdown—refusing to vote on the continuing resolution (CR) spending bill. This is a common tactic that has historically been used by both parties to extract concessions, because it requires at least 217 votes in the US House and 60 in the Senate. In November of 2024, Republicans had 220 in the House, and passed it. So the attention was put on the Senate, where they only had 53.
For the liberals who may read this, all of this means that national Democrats had something called: power. Specifically, power to stop deep government cuts—cuts whose consequences we are already beginning to see. Most would assume Democrats would use this leverage to extract concessions from Republicans and resist them as much as possible. Nope. Democrats voted for it without asking for anything.
Chuck Schumer, speaking for the ten Senate Democrats who voted for the CR bill, justified the decision by arguing that a government shutdown would hurt vulnerable Americans. This is true. However, so did the C.R bill. Because of what the CR bill cut—virtually everything, including vital services—the argument collapses. The argument doesn’t hold up. In effect, the CR bill itself “shuts down” government programs and services.
So Democrats faced a choice: vote for the bill, effectively shutting down government programs while helping Republicans, or refuse the bill and allow the government to shut down outright. The difference: one choice made Democrats look like cowards, while the other would have placed responsibility squarely on the party in power, the Republicans.
So why did Democrats vote for, and pass the C.R bill? Because it’s in their nature.
It’s In Their Nature
Those charged with the so-called preservation of “liberal order” have completely abandoned their mission. The pain that Americans are experiencing is in no way removed from Trump or the Republicans. However, more concerning is the rapid capitulation to the fascists. The absence of a will to fight, to defend these institutions of “liberal democracy,” is surprising to most, but not to those who analyze history.
These institutions were and are still flawed. They failed to live up to their rhetoric and ideals. But now the rhetoric and ideals are completely gone. It’s money, an addiction to power, and most of all selfish self-interest up and down the democratic establishment.
This capitulation is not a flaw of democrats, it’s in their nature. They are beholden to the same corporate interest that the republican party is. One of the main underlying reasons for why democrats did not shut down the government is that the corporate donors of the democratic party feared an economic fall in the market. Hurting their profit margins.
Democrats Can Fight
If you have paid attention to leftist social media over the past couple of months, you may have seen memes showing that democrats have fought their left flank harder than the republicans, with the most prominent example being Zohran Mamdani.
For the past several months since Mamdani launched into the mainstream, the attacks from those within his own party have been harsher than those same democrats attacks against republicans. A famous example was the Democratic Senator Gillibrand going on an Islamophobic rant against Mamdani. The attacks also extended to AOC, Bernie Sanders, and any member of the democratic party who dares criticize the establishment.
The epitome of this was how according to Waleed Shahid, “nearly 60% of national broadcast mentions of Zohran Mamdani centered on Israel or antisemitism, eclipsing nearly every aspect of his actual platform. Core issues like housing affordability, public transit, childcare, and food access—the very pillars of why New York Democratic voters chose to nominate him—were pushed to the sidelines. When Mamdani’s policy agenda was acknowledged, it was often treated with skepticism or reduced to ideological branding, rather than engaged as a serious response to New Yorkers’ material needs.” Democrats know how to fight, just not for you.
Our Mission
Our so-called institutions of “liberal democracy” are on their knees, self-destructing, capitulating at a time when we need them the most. What we were taught in our high school civics class about checks and balances is outdated at best, and a fantasy at worst. Many Americans are lost in the old ways of our country, where if we kept our heads down, and worked, we would ultimately be okay. Those days are gone. This fascism, this economic system, is coming to every facet of our country and the western world.
Our fight for the working class must not come from the democratic party, but from our unions, activists, and labor organizers. And if the democratic party decides to change its tune come 2028, then our priority will shift to that. However our fight can’t be to bring them back to what they used to be, it has to be for something better. An economy built for the working class, by the working class. And this fight without democrats, can be won.
